Digital Futures Artist Mentor - Katina Olsen
Born in Rockhampton, Katina is a descendant from the Wakka Wakka and Kombumerri people in Queensland. She also has Norwegian, German and English Ancestry.
Katina began training with the Beverly Prange Academy of Dance in Rockhampton before receiving a Diploma in Dance from the Queensland Dance School of Excellence and graduating from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance).
Whilst at QUT Katina was chosen to perform Frances Rings' Happy Place at the Hong Kong International Dance Festival in June 2006. In Queensland Katina also worked with ID Studio Agency for numerous events including performing as part of the Bollywood New Years Eve celebrations at the JW Marriott, Mumbai, India.
Katina joined Bangarra Dance Theatre in 2007 performing in Clan, True Stories: X300 and Emeret Lu, Mathinna, Rites of Spring, Awakenings, Fire - A Retrospective and Of Earth & Sky. Katina left Bangarra at the end of 2010 to pursue freelance opportunities, working again with Frances Rings and Narelle Benjamin on Forseen at Riverside Theatre Parramatta and Bangarra Studios in April 2011. During July and August she travelled to Vienna, Austria representing Australia as a danceWEB scholarship recipient at ImPulsTanz: The Vienna International Dance Festival. After returning to Australia Katina Performed in Tess de Quincey's acclaimed work No Cold Feet and then kicked off 2012 with Wesley Enoch's I Am Eora, Carriage Works, Sydney Festival.
