Digital Futures - Artists Talk
Art Central in collaboration with Wyong Shire Council presents Digital Futures Artists Talk.
Following on from a two week Digital Laboratory, 12 Months of Mentoring, an exhibition at Gosford Regional Gallery, we proudly present to you the Digital Futures Artists Talk; where you can hear from the emerging artists and the mentors on what it was like to be part of this amazing journey with Curator Abigail Moncrieff.
Abigail Moncrieff, most recently the artistic director of Experimenta | the Fifth International Biennial of Media Art and formerly the project coordinator of C3West at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, will lead discussion about the nature of emerging new media arts on the Central Coast and the specific practices of Christopher Balogh, Gany Erlano, Jake Fitzpatrick, Rebecca Street and Brittney Whybrow.
“What keeps new media art exciting,” notes Moncrieff, “is its ever-changing form. Conventions are quickly broken with each new generation of artists and technologies. I’m most excited about extracting the nuances and complexities of each artist’s work and their relationship with place, here on the Central Coast.”
Also in the conversation will be the Digital Futures mentors: artist Ella Barclay, sound and multimedia artist David Kirkpatrick and Indigenous Australian dancer, choreographer Katina Olsen, Artistic Support Worker Sarah Easterman and Art Central Regional Community Creative Producer Liz Carter to reflect upon their experiences overseeing the development of works by these emerging artists over the last 12 months.
